The Paper Biennale 2024. Animal Farm is an international exhibition of 20 participants with high-quality and substantively strong contemporary visual art in which paper plays the leading role. In this occasion, Puck Verkade will showcase her videowork 'Unborn'.
The theme of the Paper Biennale 2024 is Animal Farm. All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others, based on George Orwell's book of the same name, which was published in 1945. This fable by Orwell is a satirical allegory and the starting point for contemporary artists to reflect on the relationship between humans and animals.
The Paper Biennale shows many interpretations of the theme and highlights different sides of our view of animals. The participating artists view our world from the perspective of an animal, the symbolic values of animals in different times and cultures and investigate the perceived or otherwise perceived contradictions between humans and animals. The wide range of art is also about animal welfare, biodiversity, equality and man's interaction with nature and its wealth of animals.
In the very diverse and surprising exhibition, paper is used on a large and intimate scale; there are monumental installations, refined paintings and moving images on display. The works of art show us through seductively colorful images, compelling personal stories and humor that there is always a degree of “some are more equal than others”. On show until the 17th of November.
