The group exhibition Silent Light at Dürst Britt & Mayhew shows a selection of lens-based works from five of the gallery’s represented artists: Alexandre Lavet (FR), Raúl Ortega Ayala (MX), Pieter Paul Pothoven (NL), Sybren Renema (NL) and Puck Verkade (NL). The four video works and one slide projection are characterized by their tacit, contemplative nature.
Ironically, the only work that is accompanied by sound specifically deals with the theme of silence. All the works in the exhibition force the viewer to slow down and forego any immediate expectations. These works were not created to deliver any instant gratification, but they rather play with the idea of delay and how nature has a different way of ordering things. The cosmos seems to have a bigger plan than what man is able to play out on this world’s stage, however hard he tries.
